Agrofert enters East Grain, where it will acquire a 65% stake through a capital increase and thus become the majority shareholder. The transaction is still subject to approval by local and EU regulators. The value of the transaction will not be disclosed.
Romanian company East Grain is an established trader of agricultural commodities in Romania and Hungary. It also deals with logistics, warehousing and related services. Agrofert's entry represents the most significant foreign investment in Romania's agricultural sector in recent years. Agrofert's investment will allow East Grain to further expand and diversify. In return, Agrofert will have access to the Romanian market for agricultural commodities.
Agrofert is very interested in the further development of East Grain. Petr Cingr (vice-chairman of the Agrofert board), Libor Němeček (member of the Agrofert board) and Andreas Klamminger (general director of Fert-Tradero srl belonging to the Agrofert concern) will thus become new members of the East Grain board.
